Storytelling for Impact- Master Class
Mark Lovett, Organizer, TEDxSanDiego, San Diego, CA

Humans evolved as a storytelling species - from our earliest days around campfires, to the advent of books, newspapers, radio, television, and in more recent times, the Internet and social media. In an age of information overload the ability to craft a story that resonates has never been more important. Based on the principals of narrative nonfiction, we will discuss how to define the core message of your talk, how narratives should be structured, and how to increase the impact of your story.

THE FUTURE OF SCHOOLS: A Co-Lab
Mark Gonzales, Futurist, Author, Poet, Senior Technologist, The Department of the Future, Los Angeles, CA

The Future of Schools Labs is a co-lab to explore what a school/society looks like that values children and what knowledge looks like, and how do we build it? Blending story, design, and strategic dreaming, participants will reimagine both professions and purpose. From this place, a design sprint will invite us to explore: What does a school district that respects all its children and parents look like? What would emerge if the school-to-prison pipeline did not exist? Why is knowledge production an important part of human existence?  The Future of Schools is a lab of: The Dept. of the Future.
